Greens employment spokesperson Adam Bandt MP today supported airport public sector workers taking industrial action and called on Prime Minister Tony Abbott to drop his hardline bargaining policy.
“The Prime Minister previously relented his hardline bargaining policy and gave real pay rises to ADF personnel. Now it’s time he did the same for airport public sector workers,” Mr Bandt said.
“Tony Abbott is ultimately responsible for today’s industrial action. For 17 months now, he has been unfairly pushing cuts in real wages and conditions for public servants that they have rightly refused to accept.”
“The Prime Minister cannot afford to shirk his responsibility to these people any longer. He must now do for airport public sector workers what he has done for our defence personnel and offer pay deals with real wage rises that don’t attack their conditions.”
